Storia
1700
The estate, where grapes and wheat were grown, was given as a dowry to Maria Tamanti when she married Clemente Santi.
Following generations
Their daughter Caterina later married Jacopo Biondi, and their son Ferruccio developed an interest in growing grapes. After returning from the war led by Garibaldi, Ferruccio began selecting vines in search of a distinctive Sangiovese clone known as Brunello.
Part of the estate was owned by the Biondi-Santi family for a time, but the family line at Le Chiuse continued through Ferruccio's daughter Fiorella and his granddaughter Simonetta.
Simonetta and Nicolò Magnelli
Simonetta inherited the estate along with her grandfather's passion for winemaking, and she began producing wines of her own. Together with her husband, Nicolò Magnelli, she restored the buildings that had fallen into disrepair, as well as the old chapel on the property. They also built a new wine cellar and planted new vineyards.
The estate still harvests fruit from vines selected and planted by Ferruccio's son Tancredi more than 70 years ago.
Terroir
Le Chiuse stands on the slopes of Montalcino, where its favorable position and excellent microclimate help the vineyards produce very good crops.
