Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are grown in the municipality of Chiopris-Viscone. Tenuta Villa Chiopris lies in the eastern part of Friuli Grave, near Colli del Friuli and between the towns of Chiopris and Viscone. Its vineyards cover 60 hectares of loose, iron-rich alluvial soil.
The wider terroir is a broad plain of alluvial rock extending from the Veneto border in the west to Colli Orientali del Friuli in the east. Its landscape is marked by rocky riverbeds running from the hills toward the Adriatic Sea.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested mechanically and undergo eight hours of cold maceration in a horizontal cold press. The must is then filtered and fermented in steel tanks at a controlled temperature of at least 15 °C.
Ageing
The wine remains in the same steel tanks for four months at a constant temperature. After bottling, it undergoes a short period of bottle ageing before release.
Label / history
The Livon family purchased Tenuta Villa Chiopris in the mid-1990s. The acquisition expanded the family's offering of wines from Friuli.
