Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from vineyards in the Tuscan communes of San Casciano Val di Pesa and Greve in Chianti, at elevations of 250–300 m. Both young and old vines contribute grapes with differing qualities to the finished wine.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand, destemmed and cold-pressed. The must ferments in stainless-steel tanks for about three weeks at a controlled temperature of 12–18 °C. The extended fermentation is intended to preserve the grapes’ natural freshness, varietal flavour and aroma.
Label / history
The wine takes its name from Shamiso, an orphaned elephant calf cared for at a conservation park in Zimbabwe, with the intention of eventually returning it to the wild. Villa Mangiacane owner Glynn Cohen participates in a programme protecting African elephants, and part of the proceeds from the wine’s sales is donated to an organisation supporting African wildlife.
