Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from vineyards in the Madonna di Como area. The soils consist of marl and limestone, with high proportions of quartz sand, fine silt and sandstone.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand and taken directly to the winery for sorting, destemming and gentle crushing. Maceration on the skins and fermentation take place in small steel vats at a controlled temperature of 28–30 °C.
Ageing
The wine matures in enamel-lined cement tanks insulated externally with cork, which maintains a temperature of 20 °C. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation occurs during this period and is complete by the end of November. No oak is used, preserving Dolcetto’s distinctive varietal aroma.
Tasting profile
The wine is pleasant, soft and well balanced. The 2019 vintage is fruity, with good structure, balanced acidity and freshness.
Vintage notes
In Piedmont, the 2019 growing season began with a cold, wet spring that slowed vine growth and increased disease pressure. The rain also replenished groundwater reserves needed during the summer. Hot, dry conditions prevailed from June through August, when severe hail struck the region. Warm days and cool nights continued into September, allowing steady phenolic ripening while preserving freshness and acidity. A further severe hailstorm in September substantially reduced yields in some plots.
Label / history
Until 2013, the wine was named “Madonna di Como.”
