Vineyard and terroir
The Primitivo grows in a sun-drenched vineyard with limestone-clay and sandy soils. Puglia's dry, sunny heat helps the grapes ripen.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested overripe, after they have lost much of their moisture. They are destemmed and macerated at 10–12 °C for at least 18 hours. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. The juice is then gently pressed off the skins and undergoes malolactic fermentation.
Ageing
The wine spends at least 5 months in French oak barrels, followed by 4 months in bottle in the winery's cellars.
Label / history
Sellata means "saddled", and the labels show a powerful yet graceful prancing horse. The Sellata range was created by Benedetto Lorusso. Sellata Primitivo has won gold medals at the Berliner Wine Trophy and Mundus Vini.
