Vineyard and terroir
The Arneis comes from Vezza d’Alba, at 250 m above sea level on south-west-facing hillsides. The geological substrate consists of Asti sands with sandy-clayey alternations. The fine, calcareous hillside soil is classified as Typic Ustorthent. The vineyard was planted in 1999 at 4,000 vines per hectare, trained on a trellis and Guyot-pruned. Production is 9,000 kg of grapes and 6,300 L of wine per hectare.
Grapes
100% Arneis.
Vinification
Harvest takes place during the second ten days of September. The grapes are destemmed, crushed and chilled to 10–13°C before soft pneumatic pressing separates the skins from the must. The must settles for several days in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks at 13°C. The clarified must then ferments at 15–18°C for approximately ten days.
Ageing
After alcoholic fermentation, the wine is racked and maintained in contact with its lees. It is bottled in the spring following harvest and then released.
Tasting profile
Intense straw yellow. The bouquet is floral and fairly intense, while the palate is full, soft and persistent. The overall style is young and fresh.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 14°C with aperitifs, starters or fish dishes.
