Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are grown in Maremma, Tuscany. Morisfarms has 70 hectares of vineyards on mineral-rich clay soils.
Grapes
Sangiovese is supplemented by a small proportion of Petit Verdot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in mid-September. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in cement vats, with 15 days of maceration and twice-daily pump-overs.
Ageing
The wine rests in stainless-steel tanks for three months before bottling.
Label / history
Mandriolo was first released in 2008. Its name and label refer to the butteri, Maremma’s traditional cowboys: mandriolo is their word for an animal pen.
