Vineyard and terroir
The wine is produced around Scansano in Maremma, on Tuscany’s southern coast. Morisfarms has 70 hectares of vineyards on mineral-rich clay soils.
Grapes
Morellino is the local name for Sangiovese. Under the stated appellation rules, the blend must contain at least 85% Sangiovese; up to 15% may consist of other locally approved, non-aromatic black varieties.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested in late September or early October. They undergo a 20-day maceration at controlled temperatures, with pumping over twice a day.
Ageing
The wine matures for one year in oak barrels, followed by at least six months in bottle before release.
Label / history
The Moris family descends from Spanish settlers who established themselves in Maremma more than two centuries ago. The family has worked in agriculture ever since, with winegrowing becoming increasingly important over time. Its properties include the Poggio La Mozza and Fattoria Poggetti estates.
