Vineyard and terroir

The vines grow on steep, southeast-facing slopes at 240–365 m above sea level, on volcanic basalt soils. Palari’s vineyard extends over 7 ha of very steep terrain, with elevations across the estate ranging from sea level to 450 m. Yields are limited to no more than 1 kg per vine.

Grapes

The blend is led by Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio, with smaller contributions from Nocera and Galatena.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand in late October and carefully selected. After gentle pressing, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks.

Ageing

The wine matures for one year in French oak barrels, followed by eight months in bottle.

Label / history

Palari was founded in the eighteenth century in Santo Stefano Briga, in the province of Messina. Founder Salvatore Geraci sought to revive ancient winemaking traditions through modern methods. The winery released its first wine in 1990 and produces no more than 40,000 bottles annually across three wines: “Palari Faro,” “Rosso del Soprano,” and “Santa.Ne’.”
