Storia
19th century origins
In the first half of the 19th century, the Lazzaroni family of Saronno, in Lombardy, became known for their Amaretti di Saronno biscuits. The treats proved popular, and the family business gradually expanded.
Founding of Paolo Lazzaroni & Figli
A new company, Paolo Lazzaroni & Figli, was eventually established to produce a range of alcoholic drinks. Its liqueur line was launched in 1846.
Creation of the Amaretto
Five years later, in 1851, Paolo Lazzaroni created what the company describes as the world's only Amaretto made from a biscuit infusion with botanical extracts, although the producer says the recipe dates back to 1718. The liqueur became the company's signature product and has remained its flagship for more than 150 years.
