2014

On 26 November 2014, UNESCO recognised Pantelleria's traditional vine-training system as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

2015

Battista Belvisi, a winegrower and winemaker widely seen as embodying the soul of Pantelleria, and Beppe Fontana, a travelling food lover and glamorous chef, founded Abbazia San Giorgio. The estate's 3.5 ha of vineyards are located in Khamma, in the south-eastern part of the island.

Since 2015

Abbazia San Giorgio has grown both in production and in national and international recognition for the quality of its wines, which are now exported to many countries.

2022

In April 2022, Sebastiano Tecchio joined Abbazia San Giorgio. A film director, photographer, and "ambassador" for Italian natural wines in the USA, he now looks after the company's brand management and communications.

Pantelleria is a black volcanic cone rising from the sea between Sicily and Africa, giving even simple farm products an intense, distinctive character. The estate's vineyards lie in Khamma, in the south-eastern part of the island. The island is marked by a hot, dry, salty wind that bends the vines and brushes through the Mediterranean scrub.

Abbazia San Giorgio practises organic vineyard management using biodynamic methods, with a focus on natural wines. Weeds and pests are managed through agricultural practices, without pesticides, treatments for fungal diseases, or other chemical products. No fertilisers are used, whether chemical or organic.
