Vineyard and terroir

The vineyards are located in the municipality of Alba at 280–300 m above sea level. They face south-west and grow on calcareous and clay marls. The vines are Guyot trained. Severe cluster thinning limits yield to 6,000–6,500 kg/ha.

Grapes

100% Nebbiolo.

Vinification

Harvest is normally around mid-October. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats at 26–28°C for approximately 10–12 days, with frequent pump-overs. Malolactic fermentation follows.

Ageing

Argante matures slowly for 12 months in 500 L oak tonneaux. Further bottle development can improve its sensory qualities for many years.

Tasting profile

Pale ruby red with garnet reflections. The nose combines intense floral scents of rose and violet with ripe cherry, raspberry, spice and mineral notes. The palate is elegant, with well-balanced tannins, a light liquorice nuance and a pleasant, long and persistent aftertaste.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 16°C. Pair with substantial first courses, risotto or agnolotti, as well as a broad range of meats, from veal or lamb chops to roast kid.
