Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are grown near Menfi Sambuca and harvested at optimal ripeness.
Grapes
The wine was created as a tribute to Grecanico, a native Sicilian variety cultivated on the island for more than 2,000 years. Chardonnay is included in the blend to provide balance and additional freshness.
Vinification
The grapes are gently pressed and fermented in stainless-steel tanks.
Ageing
The wine matures for six months, with 90% remaining in stainless-steel tanks and 10% aged in oak barriques.
Label / history
Alastro takes its name from a wild shrub whose yellow flowers bloom in spring throughout the valley around Lake Arancio. The 2003 vintage received a silver medal at the 2004 Decanter World Wine Awards.
