Vineyard and terroir
The Riesling vineyard lies on the slopes of Mount Etna at 815 metres, in black lava-sand soils exceptionally rich in minerals.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested in mid-September and selected by hand. On arrival at the winery, they are immediately chilled to 8 °C, then destemmed, lightly crushed and gently pressed. After settling, the must ferments at 15–17 °C in large stainless-steel tanks.
Ageing
The wine rests on its fine lees for 10 months, with regular bâtonnage during the first six months.
Tasting profile
Fresh and elegant.
Label / history
The name “Eruzione 1614” commemorates the eruption of Mount Etna that began in 1614, lasted for more than ten years—probably the longest on record—and sent lava as far as the vineyards. Etna’s destructive eruptions shaped its slopes over the centuries, creating the present landscape. Planeta uses the date 1614 on wines made in remembrance of the event and, symbolically, to ward off its recurrence.
