Storia

2013: acquisition by ABFV Italia

Podere Brizio became part of Alejandro Bulgheroni Family Vineyards Italia in 2013. The acquisition followed the group's purchase of Dievole and Poggio Landi in 2012 and placed Podere Brizio within a network of Tuscan estates operating in Montalcino, Chianti Classico and Bolgheri.

The estate subsequently shared the group's emphasis on organic and low-impact agriculture, respect for the soil and the vine's vegetative cycle, and cellar work intended to preserve territorial character. Podere Brizio nevertheless remains a distinct Montalcino estate, with its own contiguous vineyards, winery, barrel cellar and hospitality facilities.

Terroir

Podere Brizio lies on the south-western side of Montalcino, at Loc. Podere Brizio 67. Its approximately 11 ha of vineyards form a contiguous block and are situated only a few kilometres from the sea. The country house, winery and accommodation occupy a hill surrounded by the estate's vines.

The estate belongs to one of the denomination's traditional or “classic” areas. The wider Montalcino territory occupies a restricted yet varied landscape marked by numerous subzones and microclimates. It lies within the Val d'Orcia natural area, between maritime influence to the south and the Apennines to the north. Its soils are associated with Sangiovese and with wines intended for long development and complexity. Within this setting, Podere Brizio's south-western, near-coastal position distinguishes it from the group's other Montalcino property to the north-east.

Podere Brizio follows a natural, sustainable and low-impact approach centred on respect for the land, its produce and the vine's vegetative cycle. The ABFV Italia vineyard holdings are organically farmed.

The broader agricultural programme identifies soil vitality, balanced vine growth and reduced environmental impact as foundations of quality. It rejects herbicides, maintains permanent vegetation between rows, and manages the area beneath the vines mechanically or manually. Cover crops and spontaneous vegetation are used to support soil organic matter, microbial life and beneficial insects. Post-harvest work is designed to relieve compaction and improve soil aeration, while alternate rows may be sown with green-manure species and left untrafficked until spring mowing. These practices form the agricultural framework shared across the group, although estate-specific implementation figures are not separated for Podere Brizio.

The winery includes a production cellar, a dedicated maturation room and a barrel cellar. The common production model uses unlined or unrefined cement vats for vinification and large, untoasted oak casks for maturation; the English presentation further identifies the maturation vessels as French oak.

This cellar approach is intended to accompany the wines toward a faithful expression of their place while maintaining high standards during vinification and ageing. Visitors can see both the production and maturation areas before tasting the estate's three appellation expressions in a private room.

Filosofia

Podere Brizio shares a production philosophy based on naturalness, sustainability, low environmental impact, and respect for both the soil and the vine's growth cycle. Quality is pursued through careful vineyard work and controlled vinification and maturation rather than through the imposition of a uniform style.

Within ABFV Italia, each estate is treated as a distinct expression of its territory. The group's stated aim is to preserve typicity, accompany wines toward their most authentic expression and communicate the differences among its Tuscan terroirs. At Podere Brizio, that principle is tied to the compact south-western Montalcino holding and its proximity to the sea.
