Vineyard and terroir

The grapes come primarily from west-facing vineyards. This exposure provides the vines with afternoon and evening warmth, while the Ponente wind disperses accumulated heat and supports slow ripening. The wine is certified organic.

Grapes

33% Sangiovese, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33% Merlot. Cabernet Sauvignon contributes power and tannic structure, Merlot supplies fruit, softness and body, and Sangiovese maintains the wine’s Tuscan identity.

Vinification

The grapes are selectively harvested by hand from mid-September to early October. Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks, followed by approximately 20 days of maceration.

Ageing

PONENTE matures for 18 months in second-fill barriques, intended to add depth without obscuring its fruit. It is bottled in October.

Technical data

The 2022 current vintage has 14.5% alcohol. Production is 8,800 bottles, and the wine is certified organic.

Tasting profile

Dense yet finely shaped, with abundant fresh cassis and ripe plum complemented by balsamic accents. The palate carries supple but clearly present tannins and concludes with a powerful, persistent finish.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 16–18°C. Pair with dark-meat main courses such as beef, lamb or venison, as well as rich sauces and Mediterranean dishes. The 2022 vintage may be enjoyed now through 2032.

Label / history

PONENTE means both “west” and the Mediterranean west wind—literally, the direction where the sun sets. The name refers to the vineyards’ orientation and the cooling airflow that shapes their growing conditions. The combination of Sangiovese with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot places the wine in the Super Tuscan style.
