Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are grown in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci. The soils are mainly sedimentary. Proximity to the Tyrrhenian coast brings cooling sea breezes, while surrounding hills shelter the vines from cold northerly winds. Generous sunshine allows the grapes to ripen fully and on time.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand into small crates and sorted manually, first in the vineyard and again at the winery. They are destemmed, gently pressed and partially crushed. The red varieties are fermented separately in stainless-steel tanks at 28–30 °C for 12 days, then blended. Malolactic fermentation follows.
Ageing
The wine matures for 15 months in 225-litre barriques of French Allier oak, 30% of which are new.
Tasting profile
Juicy and fresh, with a modern Mediterranean character.
Serving and pairing
Decant for one hour before serving.
Label / history
The wine takes its name from Il Seggio, the largest river in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci.
