Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from vineyards in the Salento area of southern Puglia. Following the acquisition of Masca del Tacco, Poggio Le Volpi expanded its vineyards in the Veglie and Torricella areas. The warmth of the land, the influence of the sea, the distinctive climate and the work of the farmers who tend the soil all shape the wines of Masca del Tacco.
Vinification
Harvest is entirely by hand, with care taken to select only the ripest, best bunches. Maceration and fermentation take place at controlled temperature in steel tanks, which helps preserve freshness and bright fruit aromas.
Ageing
The wine is aged in stainless-steel tanks. It may also be aged in oak barrels.
Tasting profile
Fresh, with bright fruit aromas. Velvety texture, smooth tannins and a well-balanced structure.
Label / history
Felice Mergè, drawing on the experience of his father Armando, bought and renovated the building in 2010. It had been the Municipal Cooperative of Erchie Producers, operating since 1949. He renamed it Masca del Tacco and equipped the winery with modern facilities and innovative production methods intended to improve quality while preserving traditional character.
