Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from vineyards in Monto Roero, Roero Montaldo and Vezza d’Alba. The limestone-rich soils consist of Pliocene deposits, sand and clay.
Vinification
The grapes were harvested by hand into small baskets from 14 September. After cryomaceration, they were gently pressed to separate the clear juice. Fermentation lasted approximately 15 days at no more than 18 °C.
Ageing
Before bottling, the wine rested for several months in stainless-steel tanks at a low temperature.
Tasting profile
Fresh on the palate, with a floral aroma.
Vintage notes
The 2010 season began with a very cold, snowy winter that delayed vine development. Spring and early summer were fairly cool and rainy, with temperatures below the seasonal average except for a few brief warm spells. Warm weather returned in late July, and favourable daytime temperatures allowed the vines to partly recover from the delay. From late August into early September, cool temperatures and selective vine thinning helped keep the grapes healthy and develop good concentrations of sugar and acidity despite heavy rainfall.
Label / history
Arneis is native to Piedmont and has been cultivated in the region for many centuries. It is most commonly found in the Roero hills northwest of Alba. Its name literally means “little rascal,” referring to the difficulty of growing the variety.
