Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from south-facing vineyards at 250–550 m above sea level, on stony, sandy soils. Most of the vines occupy steep slopes where mechanisation is almost impossible.
Grapes
The wine is produced only in the best vintages, from carefully selected grapes.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand.
Ageing
The wine matures in Slavonian oak barrels before bottling. The bottles are stored horizontally in dark cellars, and the wine reaches a fine balance after two to three years of storage.
Tasting profile
It has a dependable, serious style and becomes finely balanced with maturation.
Label / history
Valtellina Superiore received DOCG status in 1998, introducing stricter production requirements: lower yields, higher natural sugar levels at harvest and longer ageing before release. Rainoldi was founded in 1925 by Aldo Rainoldi, whose father, Giuseppe Rainoldi, exported wine and agricultural products to neighbouring Switzerland. The winery produces approximately 200,000 bottles annually.
