Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes from Vigna Vecchia and Vigna Eucalipti in Gavorrano, in the province of Grosseto. The vineyards stand at 90 m a.s.l. on medium-textured soil rich in skeletal material, also described as clay-rich and stony. Spurred-cordon vines are planted at 5,900 plants per hectare and yield 55 quintals per hectare.

Grapes

60% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot.

Vinification

Merlot is harvested in late August, followed by Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon in mid-September. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel, and malolactic fermentation is completed.

Ageing

Maturation lasts 14 months in barriques, 80% new, followed by 11 months in bottle.

Technical data

First vintage: 2012. Available in 1.5 L format. Defined as a structured red intended for long ageing.

Tasting profile

Intense ruby red with garnet reflections. Strength and intensity are balanced by elegance, with soft tannins contributing roundness. The aroma is fruity with attractive spice. The palate is deep, lively and balanced, finishing long and intense.

Serving and pairing

Pair with red meats, roasts, game and mature cheeses.
