Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes mainly from the La Solatia estate, in the hills around Siena near the medieval village of Monteriggioni. The vineyards lie at 190–250 metres above sea level on limestone-rich soils. The estate’s name derives from Solatia, a Tuscan dialect word meaning “bathed in sunshine” or “on the sunny side.” Its soils and microclimate proved particularly suitable for white-wine production during Ruffino’s Chardonnay trials in the 1980s.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested in mid-August, chilled to 8 °C and gently pressed without exposure to oxygen. After cold settling, the must ferments in stainless-steel tanks at a controlled 16 °C. Alcoholic fermentation lasts an average of eight days.
Ageing
The wine rests on its lees for one month, with regular bâtonnage to develop aroma and structure.
Tasting profile
Distinctive, elegant and refined in character.
Label / history
The wine takes its name from a small river running through the La Solatia estate. In the 1980s, Ruffino became the first company to conduct successful Chardonnay trials there. American Spectator named the wine “Best Buy” or “best value” for six consecutive years.
