Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit is grown on Galestro soils. Galestro is a porous grey marl found in the upper layers of Tuscan soils; weathering makes these soils poorer and can contribute to drought.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested in the second half of August and fermented in stainless-steel vats at 16 °C.
Ageing
The wine rests in steel tanks at 8 °C until bottling.
Label / history
The name combines two references. Ponte d’Oro, meaning “golden bridge”, evokes Florence’s Ponte Vecchio over the Arno, which is depicted on the label. The city’s oldest bridge formerly housed butchers and now contains souvenir and jewellery shops. Galestro refers to the Tuscan rock and soil on which the grapes grow.
In the 1970s, local producers formed a consortium to make fresh, light, low-alcohol wines from white varieties grown on Galestro soils, responding to changing market demand. The name links this tradition with the wine’s place of origin.
