Vineyard and terroir
The Riesling Renano vines grow in the Cembra Valley at 600–700 metres above sea level, with south-west exposure. The sandy-loam soils are of morainic origin and rest on a porphyritic base. The Guyot-trained vines are 10–30 years old, planted at 6,000 vines per hectare, and yield 80 quintals per hectare.
Grapes
100% Riesling Renano.
Vinification
The fruit undergoes a brief cold maceration before vinification in stainless steel. Fermentation proceeds at low temperature for approximately 20–25 days.
Ageing
The wine matures on its lees for 12 months in 700-litre French oak tonneaux of first and second use. The large barrels temper the variety's pronounced character while adding gentle sweet-toned nuances.
Tasting profile
Golden yellow in colour. The nose combines citrus and delicate tropical-fruit aromas with honey and subtle sweet spices. The palate is structured yet soft, silky and elegant; restrained oak contributes additional complexity. Minerality and Riesling's characteristic acidity are central to the style.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 12–14 °C. Available in a 0.75-litre bottle.
Label / history
Riesling has a long association with San Leonardo. It was served at the 1892 wedding of Marquis Tullo Guerrieri Gonzaga and Gemma de Gresti, wearing the same label design used today. Production resumed with the 2013 harvest after an interruption of more than a century.
