Vineyard and terroir

The red grapes come from espalier-trained vineyards around San Marzano in the province of Taranto, approximately 100 m above sea level. The area has high heat accumulation and medium-to-low rainfall. The shallow soil has a medium clay texture with a substantial rocky component. Planting density is 4,500 vines per hectare.

A blend of red grape varieties typical of Salento.

Vinification

Harvest takes place in the second half of September. Temperature-controlled maceration and alcoholic fermentation with selected yeasts continue for approximately 10 days.

Ageing

Maturation takes place in stainless-steel tanks.

Technical data

The 2024 wine offered through the online shop has 13% alcohol by volume. The standard bottle is 750 ml.

Tasting profile

Deep ruby red with violet reflections. The nose is broad and complex, centred on red-fruit aromas. The palate has good structure, freshness and balance.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 16–18°C with sliced meats and salami, savoury first courses, risotto and light meat dishes. The online shop recommends consumption within five years of delivery.

Label / history

The pumo is a traditional decorative object that has adorned balconies and the handrails of old stairways in Puglia for centuries. Made from the clay that once nourished the vines, it symbolizes the abundance and generosity of nature. The Il Pumo range interprets that symbol through different colours, grape varieties and appellations.
