Vineyard and terroir
The Primitivo comes from San Marzano in Taranto, Salento, Puglia, at approximately 100 metres above sea level. The warm, relatively dry production area has high heat summations and medium-low rainfall. Vines are espalier-trained at a density of 4,500 plants per hectare on shallow, clayey, medium-textured soil with abundant stones.
Grapes
100% Primitivo.
Vinification
Harvest takes place in the first week of September. The grapes remain in contact with their skins for several hours; part of the must is then drawn off and fermented as a white wine.
Ageing
Maturation takes place in stainless-steel tanks.
Technical data
The 2025 shop release has 12.5% alcohol by volume. Both 375 ml and standard 750 ml bottles are offered.
Tasting profile
Pale pink in colour, with an intense, persistent Mediterranean-maquis fragrance and notes of cherry and raspberry. The palate is fresh, elegant and balanced, with floral and saline impressions recalling the rugged, sandy Salento coast.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 10–12°C with Italian-style starters, fish soups and broths, fish baked in parchment or roasted, and young or lightly aged cheeses. Best enjoyed within three years of harvest.
Label / history
The name evokes a balance “between the seas” of Salento. Through the TramArt project, the wine has appeared in limited editions bearing labels derived from original works by artists including Paul Kremer, Matt Kleberg, Agostino Iacurci, Giampaolo Sgura and Pietro Terzini.
