Vineyard and terroir

The Nebbiolo comes from 0.72 hectares within MGA Perno in the municipality of Monforte d’Alba. The vineyards extend from 300 to 400 m above sea level. Their clay-and-sand soils vary significantly from one zone to another. The vines are between 20 and 30 years old, depending on the parcel, and are traditionally Guyot-trained at a density of 4,000 plants per hectare.

Grapes

100% Nebbiolo.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand during the second half of October. Fermentation and maceration take place in 3,000–5,000 L concrete vats for approximately 15–20 days at 25–27 °C. Twice-daily pump-overs aerate the fermenting must and break the cap. Frequent rackings in steel tanks precede transfer to oak.

Ageing

Maturation comprises at least 18 months in Slavonian oak barrels, followed by a minimum of six months in bottle in cool, dark cellars before release.

Tasting profile

Sensual and engaging from an early stage, yet capable of good longevity. The palate is balanced, elegant and mineral, with notably silky tannins.
