Label / history
The cooperative takes its name from the village of Colterenzio near Girlan, an area containing one of Europe’s oldest vineyards, planted by the ancient Romans. It was founded in 1960 by 28 local farmers and now comprises more than 290 winegrowers with around 300 ha of vineyards.
Evidence of winemaking in the area dates to the XV century BC. Archduke Sigismund, who lived at Firmiano Castle in the XV century, enjoyed the wines of Trentino-Alto Adige and supported the development of the area’s vineyards. The simple Colterenzio labels depict the silhouette of the castle he built, which is now almost completely in ruins.
