Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes from the "Berg" vineyard in Eppan-Berg, a historic Alto Adige terroir for Pinot Bianco. The vineyards lie at 450–500 metres above sea level, at the foot of Mount Mendola. The well-drained soils are of glacial moraine origin and contain limestone, clay, sand and stony material, which helps the grapes develop concentration and minerality. The cool Alpine climate, with large differences between day and night temperatures, allows slow ripening while the grapes keep high natural acidity.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand and fermented in oak barrels under controlled temperatures.

Ageing

About 70% of the wine is aged on fine lees in large oak barrels; the rest matures in tonneaux with regular bâtonnage. The lees ageing gives body, a creamy texture and added complexity. After blending, the wine rests in the bottle before release.

Tasting profile

Elegant, mineral-driven and layered, with plenty of character. Ripe fruit meets fresh acidity and a refined texture. A mineral, gently saline note gives the wine its distinctive character. The Pinot Bianco shows freshness and structure, with the ability to develop in the bottle.

Serving and pairing

Food-friendly; the text suggests it suits dinner in any season. No specific dishes are named.

Label / history

Colterenzio takes its name from the village of Colterenzio near Girlan, an area home to one of Europe's oldest vineyards, planted by the ancient Romans. The cooperative was founded in 1960 by 28 local farmers and now includes more than 290 winegrowers owning about 300 ha of vineyards. Archduke Sigismund, who lived at Firmiano Castle in the 15th century, favoured the wines of the region, and the labels carry the silhouette of the castle he built, now almost entirely in ruins. Sigismund was a wine enthusiast who actively supported the development of vineyards in the area.
