Label / history
The Colterenzio cooperative takes its name from the village of Colterenzio near Girlan, the site of a vineyard planted by the ancient Romans and regarded as one of Europe’s oldest. The cooperative was founded in 1960 by 28 local farmers; today, it comprises more than 290 winegrowers with around 300 ha of vineyards.
The region’s wines were favoured by Archduke Sigismund, who lived at Firmiano Castle in the 15th century, while evidence of local winemaking reaches back to Roman times. Colterenzio’s labels bear the silhouette of the castle built by Sigismund, who supported the development of vineyards in the area. The castle is now almost entirely in ruins.
