Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are grown in the Weisshaus vineyard in Eppan, in the province of Bolzano. The vines are 40 years old and stand at 450 m above sea level. The site has a cool microclimate with pronounced differences between daytime and nighttime temperatures, and soils containing moraine and limestone deposits.
Vinification
Part of the must undergoes alcoholic fermentation in stainless-steel tanks at 18 °C. The remainder ferments in large oak casks and also undergoes malolactic fermentation there.
Ageing
The wine remains on its lees for 10 months, with regular bâtonnage.
Label / history
Weisshaus means “White House” and takes its name from vineyards in the commune of Appiano. It belongs to Praedium, a range of wines intended to reflect historic places in Trentino-Alto Adige rather than emphasize individual grape varieties. Colterenzio’s labels feature the silhouette of a XV-century castle built by Archduke Sigismund, who supported the development of the area’s vineyards; the castle is now almost completely ruined.
