Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes from the estate’s oldest vineyard, situated south of Montalcino. The vineyard is 42 years old and lies on medium-textured, predominantly calcareous soil. The vines are trained to spurred cordon and managed for restrained vigour, low yields and concentrated fruit. Sesta di Sopra is located approximately 4 km from Castelnuovo dell’Abate.

Grapes

Sangiovese Grosso, locally known as Brunello. The estate’s vineyards were established with a selection of Sangiovese Grosso clones.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested with particular care to preserve their integrity. Traditional vinification is combined with modern cellar technology to extract colour and tannins while building structure. The cellar employs low-temperature pre-fermentation maceration, followed by prolonged maceration on the skins with controlled fermentation temperatures.

Ageing

The wine matures for 36 months in 30 hl Slavonian oak casks, followed by 12 months of bottle ageing.

Tasting profile

Deep ruby red. The bouquet is rich in ripe woodland berries and gradually develops lightly spicy nuances. The palate is full-bodied, velvety and supple, with a firm, decisive character.
