Vineyard and terroir
The Nerello Mascalese grows in Settesoli's own hillside vineyards in the commune of Menfi, in southwestern Sicily. The text describes Sicily's climate as Mediterranean, with consistent sunshine and moderate rainfall that keep rot and mold off the grapes. Coastal breezes moderate temperature changes and ventilate the vineyards, which helps ripening. Viticulture on the island is described as organic, without chemicals or herbicides. Volcanic slopes and Mount Etna have produced a dark soil rich in minerals, according to the text's account of Sicily in general.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness. Fermentation is traditional, in stainless steel tanks at a controlled 22–25 °C.
Tasting profile
Light and summery in character. Aromatic, velvety and well balanced, with pleasant fruit notes and refreshing acidity.
Label / history
"Rondone" comes from the Italian "rondine", meaning "swallow", a reference to the wine's light, summery character.
