Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The wine was made exclusively from Sangiovese grown in the estate vineyards at Case Basse in southwestern Montalcino. Vineyard work and harvesting are carried out by hand, with rigorous selection down to the individual berry.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese.
Vinification
The grapes are destemmed, and only selected whole berries enter vinification. Fermentation develops spontaneously in large vertical Slavonian oak vats through native microorganisms present in the estate environment, without the addition of artificial yeasts. Sensors measure the must temperature every ten minutes, while daily analyses and observation guide the timing of manual pump-overs.
Ageing
The wine matures for long periods in large Slavonian oak barrels in an underground cellar maintained at approximately 13 °C and 85% humidity, with natural air circulation. During maturation it is tasted regularly and monitored through chemical, physical and microbiological analyses. Racking is the sole cellar operation at this stage.
Bottling takes place at the estate. The bottled wine then rests in the cellar for several months before it is labelled, packed and shipped.
Label / history
The first Brunello Soldera was the 1977 vintage, released in 1982. Brunello di Montalcino Soldera DOCG was produced through the 2006 vintage, with a Riserva made in selected years. Beginning in 2013, the 2006 wine and subsequent releases were labelled Toscana IGT/IGP rather than Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, marking the end of this historical designation in the Soldera range.
Artists of international standing created labels intended to express the elegance, balance and classical character associated with Soldera wines.
