Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
Giramonte comes from a south-west-facing vineyard at Tenuta Castiglioni, 200 m above sea level, planted on loamy ground. The wine's history is linked to land that lay beneath the sea thousands of years ago and is characterized more broadly as sandy and clay-rich. The Frescobaldi family's ancestors planted vineyards here approximately 700 years ago.
Grapes
Merlot and Sangiovese. The grapes are selected by hand.
Vinification
Alcoholic fermentation begins spontaneously in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vessels. Gentle pumping over is used, particularly during the first few days. Malolactic fermentation takes place in new French-oak barriques.
Ageing
The wine remains in the new French-oak barriques for the following months and then receives an additional, unspecified period of bottle ageing.
Tasting profile
The 2023 is a deep, intense ruby red with purple highlights. Its complex bouquet combines ripe, juicy red and black berries and plums with sweet spices, roasted nuances, cocoa powder and toasted hazelnut. The palate is broad and full-bodied, with dense, silky tannins and an exceptionally long, persistent finish.
Technical data
Toscana IGT. Available in 0.75 L Bordeaux bottles, 1.5 L magnums, 3 L double magnums, 6 L imperials and 18 L Melchiors.
Vintage notes
Budbreak began in early April 2023. A cool, rainy spring encouraged vigorous shoot and cluster development. Warmer summer weather supported even veraison and concentration in the grapes. Dry conditions during harvest resulted in healthy, fully ripe fruit.
Label / history
Giramonte combines a modern character with the history and physical character of Castiglioni. Its earliest vintage presented in the wine archive is 1999.
