Questo vino

Vineyard and terroir

The wine belongs to Tenuta Castiglioni, the historic starting point of the Frescobaldi family's Tuscan wine production.

Grapes

Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese. Exact proportions are not specified.

Vinification

Immediately after harvest, the grapes are destemmed and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. Gentle, constant pumping over accompanies fermentation. Malolactic fermentation follows the completion of alcoholic fermentation.

Ageing

Maturation continues for 12 months in barriques, allowing the colour, aromas and palate structure to evolve together. The wine then spends two months in bottle.

Technical data

Toscana IGT. Alcohol: 13.5%. Available in 0.75 L, 1.5 L and 3 L formats.

Tasting profile

Tenuta Frescobaldi Castiglioni 2023 is brilliant ruby red with purple highlights. Blueberry, currant and plum lead the aroma, followed by star anise, black pepper and a final roasted-coffee nuance. It is full-bodied, with a very dense tannic structure. Ripe fruit dominates the finish, supported by lively acidity.

Vintage notes

Budbreak began in early April 2023. Cool, rainy spring weather encouraged abundant shoot and cluster growth. Summer became warmer, supporting veraison and the concentration of nutrients in the berries. The absence of rain during harvest produced healthy grapes with excellent ripeness.

Label / history

Tenuta Castiglioni has represented the Frescobaldi family's winemaking tradition since 1300. Wines produced here were appreciated during the 16th century at the Papal Court and at the English court of Henry VIII.
