Vineyard and terroir

Rosso di Montalcino comes from approximately one hectare in the youngest of Tenuta La Fuga’s three vineyard parcels. The estate lies on the historic Camigliano slope southwest of Montalcino, at 350 m above sea level. Its medium-textured clay soils are rich in stones, and the vines are trained to low spur-pruned cordons at 5,000 plants per hectare. The estate’s parcels range from an average age of approximately 30 years to about 11 years for the youngest parcel.

Grapes

100% Sangiovese.

Vinification

Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, with approximately four weeks of maceration.

Ageing

The wine spends at least five months in barriques before further refinement in bottle.

Technical data

Alcohol: 14% for the 2024 vintage. Approximately 10,000 bottles were produced in 2022. Ageing potential: more than 10 years. First vintage: 2002.

Tasting profile

The 2024 vintage is ruby red. Vanilla and autumn Mediterranean scrub define the aroma. The palate is notably soft, harmonious and elegant, with velvety tannins.

Vintage notes

The 2022 season began with a cool, dry winter and normal budding. Rain during spring vegetative growth encouraged vigorous, rapid development, followed by a hot, dry summer. September then brought sunny, dry and cool weather with marked differences between daytime and nighttime temperatures, enabling full ripening and supporting the grapes’ aromatic complexity and polyphenolic potential.
