Vineyard and terroir
Iuli’o draws its fruit from Vigna Camponovo and Vigna del Piano at 250 m, with west–southwest exposure. The medium-textured soils combine limestone clay and sand. Planting density is approximately 4,500 vines per hectare. The main profile describes spurred-cordon vines aged 16 years; the 2021 sheet specifies Guyot-trained vines aged 20 years. The general yield is 70 quintals per hectare, compared with 68 quintals for 2021, while yield per plant is 1.5 kg.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand. Spontaneous fermentation is followed by 15 days of maceration in stainless-steel tanks at a controlled 26°C. The main profile also specifies frequent pump-overs. Its general harvest timing is early October, while the 2021 fruit was picked in mid-September.
Ageing
The main profile gives three months in used barriques followed by one month of refinement. The 2021 wine instead matured in stainless-steel vats.
Technical data
Alcohol: 13.5%. General production is 20,000 bottles, while the 2021 release totalled 22,000. The 2021 sheet lists 750 ml European Bordeaux bottles packed horizontally in cases of six or twelve.
Tasting profile
Clear, intense ruby in colour. The aroma is elegant and fruit-driven, with cherry and light spice. Warm, rounded and balanced on the palate, it shows pronounced red-fruit flavour and a long finish. The overall profile is harmonious, with excellent ageing potential.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18–20°C under the general profile; the 2021 sheet recommends 14–16°C. Suitable as an aperitif or with cold cuts and cheese, pasta and soup.
Vintage notes
The 2021 release came from 20-year-old, Guyot-trained vines yielding 68 quintals per hectare. It was harvested in mid-September, matured in stainless steel and produced in a volume of 22,000 bottles.
