Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from vineyards at Venegazzu, on the Montello hills in the province of Treviso, near the city of Treviso. The soils are calcareous clay, with iron and mineral-rich clay that contributes firm structure and concentrated flavour.
Vinification
Traditional fermentation takes place with maceration.
Ageing
The wine ages for around two years in French oak barrels. This softens the tannins and contributes spicy and woody notes while developing the wine’s complex structure.
Tasting profile
Rich and refined, with ripe black cherry, blackcurrant and plum aromas followed by tobacco, spice and dark chocolate. The wine is complex and layered, with firm structure, concentrated flavour and polished character.
Serving and pairing
Pair with red meat dishes.
Label / history
The estate was founded in the 1950s by Count Piero Loredan, a direct descendant of Leonardo Loredan, Doge of Venice. The area's wines were mentioned by the chronicler Boniface in Historia Trevigiana.
The name Capo di Stato, meaning “head of state” in Italian, recalls the statesmen who praised the wine while visiting the estate in the mid-20th century. It was named in honour of French President Charles de Gaulle in particular.
