Vineyard and terroir

The grapes come from the Prato and Orto–Poggio Asciutto vineyards in Panzano and Greve in Chianti. Their heterogeneous, balanced soils contain a substantial proportion of clay, little limestone and abundant stones. Yield is 40 hl/ha.

Grapes

60% Merlot and 40% Sangiovese.

Vinification

Merlot is harvested in mid-September, followed by Sangiovese in the second half of the month. The varieties are vinified separately. After destemming, the grapes ferment for 15 days in stainless-steel tanks. Following racking and transfer, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation.

Ageing

The Merlot component spends 12 months in barriques, while the Sangiovese spends 12 months in 20 hl oak barrels. The assembled wine then receives at least three months of bottle ageing.

Technical data

Alcohol: 14% vol. Production: 6,000 bottles. Format: 750 ml.

Tasting profile

Bright ruby red. Aromas of red and black berries and forest undergrowth merge with liquorice, nutmeg and leather. The palate is soft, harmonious and well structured, with the roundness of Merlot, Sangiovese red-fruit character and silky, velvety tannins.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 18–20°C.
