Storia

The 1716 recognition of Pomino

Villa di Petrognano lies within Pomino, one of Tuscany’s historic wine-producing areas. In 1716, Grand Duke of Tuscany Cosimo III de’ Medici issued a law protecting four important wine-growing areas: Pomino, Classico, Carmignano and Valdarno Superiore. Pomino is now described as one of Tuscany’s smallest historic denominations.

The collaboration with Selvapiana

The modern Villa di Petrognano project developed through the friendship between Petrognano’s owner, Countess Cecilia Galeotti Ottieri, and Francesco Giuntini of Selvapiana. Their relationship gave Selvapiana the opportunity to rent and cultivate six hectares of Petrognano vineyards. No date is attached to the beginning of this arrangement.

The six-hectare holding subsequently became the source of both red and white Pomino DOC bottlings carrying the Villa di Petrognano name.
