Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The vineyards are in the Province of Pescara, on west-facing, medium-textured soils tending toward clay. Vines are trained using traditional marquee and espalier systems. The grapes remain on the vine to wither before a delayed manual harvest, normally late in the season.
Grapes
Montepulciano d’Abruzzo.
Vinification
Following on-vine withering and manual picking, the grapes undergo gentle pressing. Fermentation and maceration continue for 20 days at controlled temperature.
Ageing
The wine matures at length in traditional 50 L wooden barrels known as caratelli and remains there until bottling. Its acidity and tannic structure support more than 15 years of bottle ageing.
Technical data
Alcohol: 13% vol, with possible variation between vintages. Available format: 0.375 L. Recommended glass: small tulip.
Tasting profile
Very intense red. The nose is elegantly austere, combining dark liquorice with deep aromas of black fruit preserved in spirit. Broad and harmonious on the palate, it has a majestic presence and exceptionally long persistence.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 14–16°C. It can be enjoyed alone at the end of a meal as a meditation wine, or paired with dark chocolate, chocolates and rich cocoa-based desserts.
Label / history
Clematis takes its name from the flowering plants. Their resilience and longevity parallel the wine’s capacity for extended ageing.
