Vineyard and terroir

The grapes come from the Abruzzo Region, among the hills around Bolognano. The vineyards grow on medium-textured clay soils and are trained to both pergola (marquee) and espalier systems. Harvest is normally medium-late.

Grapes

Passerina. The variety’s name is associated with sparrows’ fondness for its particularly sweet, flavourful ripe berries.

Vinification

Gentle vacuum pressing separates the free-run must. After cold clarification, only the clearest fraction undergoes fermentation at a low, constant temperature.

Technical data

Abruzzo DOC. Alcohol: 12.5% vol, with possible variation between vintages. Available format: 0.75 L. Recommended glass: tulip.

Tasting profile

Bright straw yellow with golden reflections. The fragrant bouquet combines white flowers with very ripe yellow-fleshed fruit, tropical nuances and a final suggestion of sweet spices. The palate opens with vivid freshness and savoury character, giving the wine an energetic, dynamic progression.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 8–10°C. Pair with delicate courses, light fish dishes or aperitifs.

Label / history

The Terre dell’Abate line evokes the lands surrounding the monumental Abbey of San Clemente a Casauria and their history of abbots, emperors and saints.
