Vineyard and terroir

The Nero d’Avola comes from the higher-vigour areas of the Zisola estate near Noto. These are among the first parcels harvested, selected to produce balanced grapes without excessive sugar accumulation and to preserve freshness and drinkability. The 16-year-old vines stand at 130 m a.s.l. with south-east exposure, on medium-textured, calcareous and mineral soil. They are trained as head-pruned bush vines at a density of 5,550 plants per hectare. The wine is certified organic.

Grapes

Nero d’Avola.

Vinification

The grapes are picked by hand from 15 September. A pre-fermentative cold maceration takes place at 7 °C, followed by fermentation for 7 days at 25 °C.

Ageing

Maturation begins in stainless-steel tanks and concludes with 3 months in concrete tanks. Bottling is scheduled for April 2026, with release in May 2026.

Technical data

The 2025 has 12.54% alcohol and total acidity of 5.50 g/L. Production is 13,000 bottles, exclusively in 750 ml format. Ageing potential is up to 10 years.

Tasting profile

Light and harmonious in structure, with especially delicate tannins and fresh, clearly defined fruit. The profile is soft, aromatic and notably fresh; the palate is savoury and enveloping.

Vintage notes

The 2025 summer brought unusually high rainfall, including two events of 50 mm each, which interrupted harvesting on several occasions. Late-ripening Nero d’Avola reached ideal maturity about one week later than average. The conditions moderated potential alcohol while preserving excellent acidity.

Label / history

Iusugnu means “I am” in Sicilian. Introduced with the 2025 vintage, it presents a fresh, direct interpretation of the estate’s Nero d’Avola.
