Burgundy red wine sales fell 4.9% over 12 months
Figures attributed to the Burgundy Wine Board show divergent trends across the region’s wine categories, with modest growth for whites and a stronger increase for Crémant de Bourgogne.

Red wines lead the decline
Figures released by the Burgundy Wine Board, or CVB, on October 30, 2026, show that Burgundy sold 166 million bottles of still wine in the 12 months from July 2025 to July 2026, a decline of 1.3%. Red wine sales dropped 4.9%, with the contraction also affecting grand cru wines from Côte-d’Or.1
Other categories performed differently over the same period. White wine sales increased 0.4%, supported by regional appellations and wines from the Mâconnais and Chablis. Sales of Crémant de Bourgogne rose 6.5%, and the appellation represented 17% of the region’s bottled sales volume, compared with 12% in 2021.1
Export volume rises as value falls
Burgundy’s export volume grew 2.3% between July 2025 and July 2026, while export value decreased 2.4%. In the United States, import value for Burgundy wine fell 21.2% despite an increase in volume; the CVB associated the decline in value with tariff disruption.1
The board is also assessing India as a potential market. About 12 Burgundy companies are participating in a fact-finding mission there. According to the source, an agreement signed between India and the European Union in January 2026 provides for Indian duties on European wines and spirits to fall gradually from 150% to 20%.1
