Columbia Distributing completes Alaska beverage-assets deal with RNDC

The transaction gives Columbia Distributing direct operations in Alaska and completes the geographic footprint of its four-state Pacific Northwest beverage-distribution platform, which also covers Oregon and Washington directly and Idaho through a partnership with Hayden Beverage. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Entry into Alaska

Columbia Distributing announced on October 26, 2026, that it had completed the acquisition of certain beverage-distribution assets in Alaska from Republic National Distributing Company (RNDC). The closing marks Columbia’s formal entry into Alaska and completes the final element of a letter of intent that the companies announced in April. Financial terms were not disclosed.1

The acquired business adds nearly 1,500 customer accounts and increases Columbia’s direct service territory to more than 835,000 square miles. Columbia said it is entering Alaska with an experienced local workforce, established customer relationships and an existing distribution network.1

A four-state distribution platform

Columbia now operates directly in Alaska, Oregon and Washington. Together with its recently completed strategic partnership with Hayden Beverage in Idaho, these operations form a connected four-state route to market across the Pacific Northwest. The company describes the network as a multi-category platform serving suppliers and retailers across the region.1

The Alaska closing follows Columbia’s June 30 acquisition of certain RNDC wine and spirits distribution rights in Oregon and Washington. In September, Columbia completed its strategic partnership with Hayden Beverage, described by Columbia as Idaho’s leading locally based beverage distributor. The Alaska transaction completes the four-state geographic footprint contemplated by Columbia’s expansion strategy.1

Investment and transition plans

Columbia said it sees unrealized growth potential in Alaska and plans to provide investment, leadership, resources and greater market focus. President and CEO Chris Steffanci said the local team already understands the market and brands, while Columbia’s role will be to supply the support and tools needed to expand the business.1

The company said it intends to combine the Alaska team’s local knowledge and relationships with Columbia’s operating culture, emphasizing staff autonomy, accountability, speed and attention to customers, brands and execution. Steffanci said the goal is to grow and compete in the state rather than simply preserve the existing business.1

Columbia is working with employees in Alaska as well as suppliers, customers and other business partners to manage the transition. It plans to provide affected stakeholders with further details on operational changes, the product portfolio and the timing for the new operation to go live.1

Portfolio and scale

Columbia’s expanded platform covers beer, wine, spirits, cider, non-alcoholic drinks and emerging beverage categories. The company says the structure is intended to give suppliers regional scale, category expertise, operational support and a more coordinated route to market, while offering retailers a broader portfolio supported by sales, delivery, merchandising, revenue-management and account-execution services.1

Founded in 1935, Columbia reports that it has more than 3,200 employees, serves approximately 24,000 retail customers and delivers more than 80 million cases annually. Its current footprint combines direct operations in Alaska, Oregon and Washington with the Hayden Beverage partnership in Idaho.1
