Court approves RNDC plan as distributor continues wind-down

On 27 October, the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas approved the Chapter 11 plan for Republic National Distributing Company and its debtor subsidiaries. For the wine industry, this marks a new stage in the case of a major US distributor whose wind-down affects suppliers and customers.

The official case docket includes order No. 731 approving RNDC’s second amended joint plan. The document was signed on 27 October. A separate hearing entry, No. 728, confirms that the court approved the disclosure statement and confirmed the plan. Judge Christopher Lopez is presiding over the case.1

Asset sales and wind-down of operations

RNDC and some related companies filed for Chapter 11 protection on 26 July 2026. The official case website states that the process is intended to pursue potential court-supervised asset sales and an orderly wind-down of the remaining operations. The company also said it was continuing to perform transitional service agreements connected with businesses sold previously.2

Modern Distribution Management reported in July that the bankruptcy followed supplier departures, facility closures and the transfer of markets to competitors. In May, Reyes Beverage Group completed its acquisition of RNDC operations in several markets. This shows that changes to the distribution network began well before the October court ruling.3

Why the case matters to wineries

The distributor’s creditors include wine and spirits producers. MDM reported that the 30 largest unsecured claims exceeded $300 million in aggregate. That figure applies to a specific group of claims and does not represent all of RNDC’s liabilities. The scale of the case makes it material to companies that supplied products through the distributor.3

Vinetur identifies Delicato Family Wines, Proximo Spirits and Edrington among the affected suppliers. The publication also describes disputes concerning proposed settlements with creditors and claims against owners. These reports provide context for the debate over the plan; this article establishes the current court status from the official records dated 27 October.4 · 1

What the new status means

The confirmed fact as of the preparation date is that the court has approved the plan. Completion of creditor settlements and the closure of individual facilities require subsequent confirmation. For trading partners, the next reference point will be filings documenting the actual implementation of the procedure’s stages.1 · 2
