German wine export revenue falls 3% in first half of 2026

Shipments remained at 600,000 hectolitres, while export value declined to €186 million; sales to the United States fell 11% by both volume and value.

Germany exported 600,000 hectolitres of wine from January through June 2026, unchanged from the same period in 2025, according to figures attributed to the German Wine Institute (DWI). Export value declined 3% to €186 million.1 · 2

The United States was the clearest weak market: German wine exports there fell 11% in both volume and value during the first half. The DWI linked the contraction to continuing tariffs and difficult market conditions. The United States represented 9% of Germany’s wine export volume in the period.1 · 2

Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark together accounted for 25% of German wine exports in the first half of 2026. In Sweden, sales through the state alcohol retailer Systembolaget increased 10% by volume and 11% by value during the first 9 months of 2026, while the overall Swedish wine market contracted 2%, according to the DWI.1 · 2

DWI managing director Melanie Broyé-Engelkes described the stable overall shipment volume as a solid result amid weaker global wine consumption. The institute said demand for lighter, fresh white wines supported German exports in some markets, although Nordic growth was insufficient to prevent the decline in total export revenue.1 · 2
