About this wine

Profile

A thick floor of clay topped by a thin calcareous layer characterises the Nobile’s underworld. The clay acts as a water reserve releasing just the right amount to the vineyards. This magical environment is where the tasting palette of Sangiovese comes to life. Based on the plots’ geolocation the grapes take on a nuance of their own. Our single vineyards represent the Sangiovese tasting palette with which our Nobile is made. All vinified in the same manner, they are truly different yet can come together harmonically.

2019 vintage

In 2019, the vineyard enjoyed everything it required: abundant water, light and warmth, creating the perfect conditions for producing a large quantity of high-quality grapes. The wines reflect the lightness and generosity with which the vintage was approached.

Tasting notes

The aromatic profile of La Stella opens with a delicate bouquet of small red berries, among which raspberry and redcurrant stand out clearly. This freshness intertwines with intriguing spicy notes of turmeric and a deep hint of umami, lending the nose a savory and entirely distinctive dimension. On the palate, La Stella reveals itself as elegant and linear, with a medium body well proportioned to its persistence. The attack, soft and inviting, is supported by refined and well-mannered tannins, capable of guiding the sip with remarkable clarity and an aristocratic finish. 2019 2017 2015

The sediments you might find in this wine show that it is made of pure Sangiovese with minimal intervention. The deposit is due to its high content of a natural antioxidant called quercetin, which is perfectly safe. This is not a flaw, it is a characteristic of the pure Sangiovese. The plants underwent vegetative blocks that made it difficult for the pulp, skins and pips to develop, which were more concentrated. Through short and delicate extractions we were able to privilege the elegance and drinkability that distinguish our wines. TASTING NOTES La Stella, with its vital energy and spontaneity, is a wine of light and shadow that reveals all sides of our beloved Sangiovese. On the nose fruity aromas of pink grapefruit peels combine with hints of almond blossoms and tobacco. On the palate La Stella is striking for its dense and enveloping tannic texture, but at the same time with a voluminous and warm body with an aftertaste of autumn leaves and cocoa powder. ..............................................................................................................................................

Harmonious wines, warm and charming, on the canvas, the marriage between light and matter. The variable weather conditions of this vintage, with the right timing, enabled us to make powerful, yet elegant wines. The beauty of the wine district of Montepulciano lies in its immense diversity: soils rich in sand and clay give way to deeper or shallower calcareous plots, imprinting distinctive nuances to the wines’ tasting profile. Avignonesi’s Nobile has always mirrored the best of what our region offers, being the result of a pure Sangiovese sourced from all our different vineyard plots. With this project, instead, we give voice to each single identity, crafting a multifaceted palette of our most original Sangiovese expressions, listening to their own, special story. This is how the Single Vineyards were born. AWARDS 2015 - 92/100 (WS) 2015 - 95/100 (Suckling) 2015 - 92/100 (Veronelli)
