About this wine

Profile

Made from Sangiovese grapes, this wine expresses the characteristics of its terroir in a balanced and harmonious way. Mediumbodied, with smooth and well-integrated tannins, it offers an elegant and distinctive flavour profile. After ten years of ageing, it now shows perfect maturity, with fully developed complexity and harmony. For the label, Avignonesi and Bonvini 1909 present a project by Carlo Stanga, who reimagines Le Capezzine, a symbolic site of Avignonesi and a historic model farm. A great vine, symbol of life and deep roots, intertwines with figures and objects of rural tradition and viticulture. Around it, the estate’s hills and buildings, with Montepulciano in the background, evoke the bond between nature, human labor, and wine. A poetic image that celebrates Vino Nobile di Montepulciano as the fruit of harmony between land, history, and community.

2015 vintage

A well-managed yield, particularly for Sangiovese, a good balance between vegetative growth and production, moderate water stress, and favourable weather during the crucial phenological stages all contributed to a vintage of great harmony. The wines are harmonious, with warm and enveloping shapes – on the canvas, a marriage between light and matter. The meteorological variables, aligned just right, have made it possible to craft wines that are both powerful and elegant.

Tasting notes

Pale garnet red in colour, with brick-like hues typical of aged Sangiovese. On the nose it is very intense, unfolding in the glass with a play of aromas. The initial fruitiness of black cherry and ripe plum evolves towards balsamic notes, with Mediterranean hints of undergrowth, thyme, eucalyptus, and a delicate finish of leather, cocoa, and tobacco. On the palate, the entry is opulent, the body enveloping and fleshy. From its mature, warm character emerge sweet, well-defined tannins. Flavours of cherry and plum jam return, accompanied by touches of vanilla and thyme. Broad on the palate, it expresses ethereal grace and harmony. Over time in the glass, it develops elegant nuances of dried violet and orange peel. It has aged early but well, representing a vintage marked by the highest temperature peaks of the past fifteen years. Time has softened its freshness, enhancing the typicity of Nobile di Montepulciano, 100% Sangiovese. Best enjoyed now or soon, rather than over long ageing. download Technical Sheet 2015

The sediments you might find in this wine show that it is made of pure Sangiovese with minimal intervention. The deposit is due to its high content of a natural antioxidant called quercetin, which is perfectly safe. This is not a flaw, it is a characteristic of the pure Sangiovese.
